Over the past year, John Coe of Coe Enterprises embarked on a ULI Young Leaders mentorship program, exposing up-and-coming commercial real estate talent. Throughout this enriching process, leaders of the real estate industry have lined up to impart their wisdom on the industry’s next generation, including none other than Rappaport’s founder, Gary D. Rappaport.
In March, the Young Leaders met Gary at Avec on H, the avant-garde mixed-use project within the Atlas District of Washington, D.C. for which Rappaport partners with WC Smith to develop. Following a tour of the site, Gary walked through the building blocks in his life that shaped his career, leading a Q&A round-table discussion.
Always an advocate for educating and empowering people with his knowledge of retail real estate and investing, Gary also sat for an interview for John’s new podcast, Icons of D.C. Area Real Estate, which debuted on August 15th, 2019. They delve into several subjects, such as Gary’s humble family background in New York and how he got started in retail real estate, Skyland Town Center and his continued involvement in the decades-long approval and construction process, as well as his opinions on the state of the retail market and the influences of online retail to brick-and-mortar stores.
