From Big Lots to Party City, Kohl’s to buybuy Baby, big-box national chains are shuttering locations across the country, and, for better or worse, those decisions are being felt in the D.C. area.

“We wouldn’t have much of anything if it wasn’t for Party City, which has left lots of opportunity, and I think it’s a great opportunity for us to be able to improve our tenant mix,” said Henry Fonvielle, president of McLean-based commercial real estate services firm Rappaport.

Rappaport manages a trio of centers where Party City is vacating space, at Central Park in Fredericksburg, Virginia; Festival at Riva in Annapolis; and Bull Run Plaza in Manassas.
