On May 15th 2022, members of the Rappaport team will be showcasing their strength, stamina, and solidarity for a good cause – the Ride to End Alzheimer’s cycle event, happening both virtually and at the stunning Morven Park in Leesburg, VA, in Loudoun County – DC’s Wine Country.

The “Ride to End Alz” event is organized by the Alzheimer’s Association, and aims to “impact the pace and momentum behind the fight to end Alzheimer’s”, raising funds and awareness in order to advance research to end this debilitating disease.

A Worthy Cause

Around the world, some 55 million people have Alzheimer’s Disease, a degenerative disease that affects memory, thinking and behavior, and has no cure. In America alone, over six million people are living with Alzheimer’s disease, the most common form of dementia. By 2050, this is expected to reach over 13 million.

For every one of them and the millions more family members, loved ones, and care givers of Alzheimer’s patients, the Alzheimer’s Association strives to advance research “towards the first survivor.”

As the event website explains: “There is no shortage of ideas in Alzheimer’s research — only dollars. But you can help change that. Funds you raise will go toward the Association’s efforts to discover methods of treatment and prevention for Alzheimer’s and other dementias.”

Putting the Fun in Fundraising

The Alzheimer’s Association is the world’s largest non-profit funder of Alzheimer’s disease research, and this is one of the ways that they do this. Events like this contribute directly to the $300 million the Association is currently investing into hundreds of promising projects  focused on detection, discovery, treatment, and prevention.

The Rappaport team includes our fearless leader, Henry Fonvielle, as well as Steve Pugh, Sebastien Aubouin, Susan Bourgeois, Erika Smith, and Steve Carboni – who is ambitiously attempting the maximum route of 100 miles. All courses start and finish at Morven Park in Leesburg, VA, in Loudoun County.
