Things are looking up! Economic and retail analysts are predicting a significant increase in socializing and consumer spending in the second half of 2021. Stimulus funds, higher levels of vaccination, and a general mindset shift are all contributing factors to a more positive outlook – for retail and on a personal level.

A recent ICSC survey found that 45% of polled consumers said they are ready to return to restaurants and other eateries, painting a promising picture for consumer spend in upcoming quarters. A further 47% of respondents indicated they would return to gyms and fitness facilities. For many, the prospect of resuming regular fitness routines is a welcome one. Last year’s Covid restrictions have left people without many options for staying in shape.

Also looking to “get back into shape”, Worldgate Athletic Club and Spa in Herndon, VA, has announced a multi-million-dollar renovation of its popular facilities. The upgrades will include the addition of a boxing studio and over $1 million in new equipment, plus aesthetic upgrades to the flooring and lighting – and will be completed by Fall. A timeline and further details are available here.

With a selection of activities spanning both the in-person and digital contexts, Worldgate Athletic Club and Spa’s timely renovation is a much-needed “shot in the arm” for the local fitness economy.

Other features club members can look forward to include: an updated indoor track, a suite of cardio equipment from brand leaders Precor and Freemotion, new weightlifting equipment, a Wellness Pod recovery area, and a golf simulator. Club members will also benefit from a selection of new training programs and classes, along with tailored nutritional coaching. Spa therapists and holistic wellness packages complete the offering.

The renovation process and subsequent management of the center will be overseen by WTS International, an outfit with nearly 50 years of experience in the fitness industry. Existing facilities offered at Worldgate include tennis, squash, and basketball courts, a volleyball court, and a 25-yard swimming pool.

To complement the on-site services, Worldgate Athletic Club and Spa will also offer virtual fitness options for members. These features include an on-demand workout library, virtual events, and a membership app for around-the-clock support with fitness and training goals.

WTS’s Senior VP of Fitness, Chris Griebe explains: “Worldgate is an amazing fitness facility that will be even more special once the renovation is complete.  The enhancements will draw more clients but just as importantly will strengthen the greater Herndon community. With our deep experience, we are excited to help lead these exciting changes.”

“What we’re creating at Worldgate Athletic Club & Spa really fits our ethos of ‘cultivating places’ – bringing well-designed places to communities and enhancing the lives of the D.C. Metro area residents,” says Rappaport president Henry Fonvielle.
