As Chief Operating Officer, Steve oversees the operations of Financial Services, Office/Personnel Management, Property Management, Lease Administration and IT departments for Rappaport. In addition to company operations, Steve also works closely with the Rappaport team on acquisitions, loan procurement, capital strategies and investor relations.
Steve served over 10 years as Rappaport’s Senior Vice President providing direct oversight and management of the team responsible for leasing Rappaport’s portfolio of approximately 75 shopping centers located throughout D.C., Maryland and Virginia. As SVP, he oversaw the operation of the leasing department, lease negotiations, leasing and merchandising strategies, and tenant recruitment and worked extensively with the executive team on new shopping center acquisitions.
Prior to joining Rappaport, Steve was Director of Asset Management for the Washington REIT (NYSE: WRE now traded as ELME) where he oversaw a 2.8M-square-foot, 32-property portfolio comprised of commercial office and medical properties located throughout the D.C. market. During his career in the commercial real estate industry, Steve has taken an integral role in more than $1.2 billion in acquisitions, of which almost $800 million included shopping center and street retail properties.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from San Diego State University and is an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). He has held numerous leadership roles and been an active participant with many industry-specific groups including George Mason University Center for Retail Transformation Advisory Board, Washington Real Estate Group, District of Columbia Building Industry Association, and Bethesda Urban Partnership.
