Worldgate 9 Theatres Premiers Dolby 3D

The movie theaters at Worldgate 9 Theatres in Herndon received an upgrade with the recent installation of Dolby® Digital Cinema and Dolby® 3D technology. Worldgate will premiere its new Dolby 3D technology with the showing of Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (PG) on July 1. This showing represents the first 3D feature movie within the Herndon area and gives Worldgate 9 Theatres the distinction of being the only theater within the Washington, D.C. market to offer Dolby 3D solution. Dolby 3D provides realistic color reproduction and extremely sharp images delivering a premium viewing experience to every seat in the theatre.
“Dolby Digital Cinema provides audiences an opening night experience every night,” explained Tim Schafbuch, sales director, Cinema, Dolby Laboratories. “When you combine Dolby Digital Cinema layered with the Dolby 3D and Dolby Digital surround sound capabilities audiences at Worldgate 9 will have a truly immersive movie-going experience.”
Worldgate introduced its digital movie presentation last week with the playing of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (PG 13). “The quality and image of the Dolby Digital Cinema is phenomenal. Combine that with the terrific special effects, new storyline and fan following of the Transformer’s movie, and it’s a perfect summer blockbuster experience,” said Phil Zacherretti, president of Phoenix Theatres, which manages Worldgate 9 Theatres. “Now with the addition of Dolby 3D and Dolby Digital surround sound, the Worldgate theater is truly a perfect community theater for Herndon residents to enjoy high quality, Hollywood entertainment. We are proud to help bring this state-of-the-art experience to the market.”
“Hollywood has stepped up production of 3D movie offerings, and we felt it was important to be able to show these movies as intended. To do so involved an upgrade to digital technology, and we chose Dolby, which is the recognized leader,” said Gary D. Rappaport, president and chief executive officer of The Rappaport Companies. “When we purchased Worldgate Center and took over the theater about 10 years ago, we made a commitment to our merchants and the local community to continue to operate a first-class theater offering first-run movies, and this upgrade is an example of that commitment,” he added. Since taking over Worldgate 9 Theatres, The Rappaport Companies has renovated the theater and added high-back, rocking chair seating, upgraded the concession stand and its offerings and renovated the bathrooms.
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (PG) is the third movie in the series and first to be in 3D. The movie’s lively characters, fun story, and the addition of the 3D effects combined with the Dolby 3D will make for a wonderful family and overall movie experience.
Worldgate 9 Theatres is located in Worldgate Centre, at exit 10 off the Dulles Toll Road, at the intersection of Centreville Road/Elden Street and Worldgate Drive in Herndon.
