Central Park landlord The Rappaport Companies is donating temporary retail space to The Fredericksburg Jaycees and The Salvation Army for their upcoming seasonal philanthropic events. The Jaycees are operating a Haunted House at 1380 Central Park Boulevard, which was the former location of Bogeys Sports Bar and Grill. The Salvation Army will be using the old Linens N Things space at 1360 Carl D. Silver Parkway for its annual Angel Tree project.
The Rappaport Companies generosity in donating space to the Salvation Army for its Christmas Toyland project is a perfect testimony to their spirit of community. We are fortunate and proud to call Gary Rappaport and his team friends, said Richard G. Frank, executive vice president of StellarOne Bank, who suggested the Salvation Army contact Rappaport for space at Central Park.
The Jaycees Haunted House is open every Friday and Saturday night at 7 p.m. throughout October. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children 12 years old and under. Proceeds help benefit the many Jaycees community programs like the annual Easter Egg Hunt and Camp Virginia, which is a camp for individuals with disabilities. The haunted house is really popular with teenagers, and were proud to be able to provide them with a fun experience while earning money for our community service programs, explained Scott Herlitz, Jaycees vice president of Ways and Means.
The Salvation Army will be using the old Linens N Things space as a staging and distribution center for the toys it collects and distributes through its holiday Angel Tree promotion. The promotion involves Christmas trees decorated with paper angels listing gifts that can be purchased for needy families. The trees are placed in businesses throughout the Fredericksburg area like Wal-Mart and Cracker Barrel.Businesses displaying the angel trees will also collect the purchased gifts and the Salvation Army will coordinate pick up and delivery of the presents.
